User Research for Better Documentation

As we progress with our content migration, I’ve been thinking about the questions we’ll ask during user research. I’m excited to uncover gaps and identify ways to further improve our documentation. Here are just a few of the questions on my mind: When you first encounter our documentation, does it give you a clear understanding of what the product does and whether it fits your needs? How do you typically decide if a product or feature is worth using? Does documentation influence that decision? What kind of information do you look for when evaluating a product? Does our documentation help you grasp key concepts before you start using the product? Have you ever struggled to understand abstract or fundamental product concepts? If so, where did you turn for help? What types of explanations (written, visual, interactive, video, etc.) help you learn best? Do you find screenshots helpful in our documentation? Why or why not? Do you prefer more textual explanations, more screenshots, or a combination of both? I have so many more questions in mind and will need to narrow them down when the time comes. If you have favorite research questions, I’d love to hear them!
